Airedale Terrier is dog breed native to the valley (Dale) of the Aire River in the western constituency of Yorkshire, England.Its name is Airedale Terrier because it is originated in dale of Aire River and Terrier Means - type of small dog breeds.Traditionally it is referred to as the "King of Terriers" because it is the largest of all terrier breeds.
It is used as versatile hunting and as farm dog. In Britain this breed is used in world war and also used as police dog. In US this breed used as upland birds and hunt big game. The double layer has a hard outer coat, thick and thready with a soft undercoat.The coat is hypoallergenic. The Tail is High on back. They are an alert and energetic breed, "not aggressive but daring".In many parts of the world the Airedale's tail is commonly docked within five days of birth. History
Valley of Aire River in Yorkshire, England is birthplace of this breed in mid 19th century. In 1886 Airedale Terrier is recognised by Kennel Club of England. In 1864 they were exhibited a championship dog show sponsored by the Airedale Agricultural Society.Airedale Terrier, name of this breed was accepted by the Kennel Club (England) in 1886.In 1880 First Airedale Terrier reached to North America Named Bruce and Bruce won terrier class in New York dog show in 1881.The earliest Canadian inscriptions are recorded in the stud book of 1888-89.The Airedale was used in World War I to transport messages to soldiers behind enemy lines.They were also used by the Red Cross to find wounded soldiers on the battlefield.
*An Airedale named "Jack" ran through half a mile of enemy fire, with a message attached within his collar. He arrived at headquarters with his jaw broken and one leg badly splintered, and right after he delivered the message.*Before the adoption of German Sheprad , Airedale Terrier is used for law enforcement and search and rescue work . Dog units were created in 1923, for special service and Airedale Terriers were used as demolition dogs, guard dogs, police tracking dogs and casualty dogs.Popularity of Airedale is rapidly increased after World War 1 and also Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, and Warren Harding owned Airedales.President Harding's Airedale named Laddie Boy, was the "first famous White House pet".Airedale Terrier become most popular breed in USA in 1920s.The Airedale Terrier was recognized by United Kennel Club and American Kennel Club in 1914 and 1888 respectively.

- Airedales can be affected by hip dysplasia and dermatitis.
- Skin problems may go undetected in this breed because of their hard, dense and stiff hair.
- Under/over-productive thyroid glands are the main causes of skin problems.
- Bloat also affects Airedale Terriers buildup of gas in stomach and leading to cardiovascular collapse and death.
- Signs of bloat include stomach pain, vomiting, and increased salivation.
- Cataracts also a common cause but in older Airedales.
- Brush the coat of dog weekly.
- Brush them teeths 3 times in week.
- Exercise your dog regularly.
- Don't give people food to this breed.
Feeding
- 1.5 - 2 cups High quality and high protein type foods must fed to the Airedales. Fed Twice in a day.
- Fish oil is good for Airedale's coat and good source of energy. Two type of dog foods:-
- Dry Food and Wet food both are best for this breed.
But this breed have some dental problems so dry food is best for Airedale becausedry food helps in making teeth strong and gum.
